Erica R. Bailey

I am an Assistant Professor in Management of Organizations at Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley

I primarily study authenticity and the self. My research centers around three basic questions: How do we define who we are? When do we experience that sense of self ("state authenticity") in everyday life? What barriers prevent us from sharing that self fully with others?

I received my PhD in Management from Columbia University and earned my BSBA specializing in Economics from The Ohio State University. My academic career began at Columbus State Community College whereby the grace of outstanding adjunct professors and $72 a credit hour classesI was able to sort my life out.

Before graduate school, I had a stint in government and politics (much like Economics, it did not stick), and worked at IBM as a creative team lead. I was also a waitress and bartender for six years, which taught me more about human psychology than most textbooks.

When I'm not doing research, I like reading fiction books, petting other people's dogs, and surfing.
